  1. A GI product is primarily an agricultural, natural or a manufactured product (handicraft and industrial goods) originating from a definite geographical territory.

  3. It ensures exclusivity.
  4. It is covered as the element of intellectual property rights (IPRs) under the Paris Convention for Protection of Industrial Property.

  6. GI tag in India is governed by Geographical Indications of Goods Registration and Protection Act), 1999.
