1. Chilika Lake is a brackish water lagoon.

2. Spread over Odisha, at the mouth of the Daya River, flowing into the Bay of Bengal.

3. It is the largest coastal lagoon in India and the second largest coastal lagoon in the world after The New Caledonian barrier reef in New Caledonia.

4. It is the largest wintering ground for migratory birds on the Indian subcontinent.

5. In 1981, Chilika Lake has designated the first Indian wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention.

6. It was put under Montreux Record but later removed.
